9 Tips for Keeping Your Laundry Lint-Free

Washing and drying are already pretty tedious chores on their own, right? If your clothes come out of the dryer with lint, that makes it an even bigger problem. But the good news is that you can prevent lint from getting on your clothes.

Where Does Lint Come From?

When that washing and tumbling happens in the machine, your fabrics shed small fabrics that create lint. In the washing machine, clothing fibers are pulled towards the surface but remain intact. However, during the drying process, hot air from the machine is blown around and removes these fibers off the clothing. That is how lint forms.

How To Prevent Lint From The Dryer

One of the main functions of a dryer is to remove as much lint as possible, although far too often there is always some amount of lint that forms. By making these small changes, you can significantly reduce the amount of lint in your laundry.

  1. Find both the lint trap and the lint filter in your dryer. The lint filter, found inside the lint trap, is designed especially to prevent lint from getting on your clothes. If the lint filter gathers too much lint, it will end up on your clothes.
  1. Gently remove the filter from the trap by pulling it out from the top. The lint filter is similar to a thin mesh screen, which is held together by a plastic frame.
  1. Use your fingers to remove any lint from the filter. Wipe its entire surface thoroughly and get rid of any lint that you find.
  1. Using a soft brush vacuum, brush it throughout the filter screen surface area, which will effectively remove even more lint.
  1. Use the vacuum to clean out the lint trap too. For easier cleaning, gently push the vacuum down the lint trap by using the long stick attachment. This step will help you get rid of any residual lint that was lying around in the trap.
  1. A soft rag can be used to wipe the lint trap and filter. If you find some stubborn lint, go back to it with a dryer sheet.
  1. Wipe the interior of the dryer door with a soft rag; this will effectively remove any more lint.
  1. Return the newly cleaned lint filter into the lint trap.
  1. Clean the filters thoroughly at least once a month; all you need to do is remove them and wash with warm water and a little soap. Let it air dry before you replace the lint filter.

By following these simple steps, you can reduce the amount of lint after the drying process.
